  • Author: Sweta Patel
  • Total Time: 35
  • Yield: 12 donuts 1x

Ingredients

Scale

Gulab Jamun Donuts

  • 1 – Gits Gulab Jamun packet

Sugar Syrup

  • 1 & 1/4 cups sugar
  • 2 cups water
  • 2 tsp rose water
  • 2 cardamon pods
  • ¼ tsp saffron

Rose glaze

  • 1/4 cup powder sugar
  • 1/2 tbsp milk
  • 1 tsp rose water

Instructions

Sugar Syrup

  1. In a sauce pan, add the water, sugar, rose water, cardamon pods and saffron. Bring to a low simmer until sugar is dissolved and you are developing a syrup like consistency. This will take 7-10 mins.

Rose Glaze

  1. Mix everything together until there are no lumps and you have a smooth consistency. Set aside until donuts are ready to be glazed.

Gulab Jamun Donuts

  1. In a bowl, combine the GIT’s packet along 1 tsp baking powder and the amount of water it calls for on the back of the package.. Once you have everything mixed and it’s formed into a dough cover the bowl with a tea towel for 10 mins.
  2. In the meantime, heat up some oil for frying on med/low heat.
  3. Roll out your dough 1/2 inch thick, you don’t want to roll it out too thin because it will result into some flat donuts.
  4. Using a round cookie cutter, press down firmly and cut your donut rounds! Using the back end of a piping tip to make the center hole for your donuts. Repeat and reuse the dough to make more donuts until you have no more dough!
  5. Fry the donuts until golden brown and place on a cooling rack until all the donuts are fried.
  6. Place them in the rose syrup to soak. Let them soak for at least 1 hr, but best if you can let them soak for 2 hrs. Once they have been soaked, drizzle the rose glaze and enjoy!

Notes

  1. You can use almond or oat milk in sub for regular milk in the rose glaze for a vegan/dairy free option.
  2. I garnished the donuts with chopped pistachio and dried rose petals after I drizzled the glaze so they would stick well to the donuts. Be creative and garnish with what you like !
