Good Morning America Feature

Diwali is a busy time of the year for us South Asians. Celebrating the festival of lights means gathering with friends and family and usually, cooking a whole lot.

Although older generations have stuck closely to traditional celebrations, times are changing, especially in the United States. People like me who grew up in blended cultures – Indian and American – are creating new, modern traditions.

And it’s getting more popular.

In Good Morning America’s words, “Social media is abuzz with creators sharing thousands of recipes that fuse traditional Indian sweets with a western twist.”

So, when GMA reached out to me (definitely a pinch-me moment) to feature me for one of my Diwali fusion recipes, I was thrilled to share all the ways I was honoring my culture in the kitchen while making it fun and approachable.

I know a lot of people can feel afraid to cook or bake. They are daunting tasks and everything online makes it seem like you need fancy instruments or have to make every little thing from scratch.

However, that’s not true at all. In fact, if I had one piece of advice, just one thing you take away from my page, it would be this: “I just want everyone to have fun in the kitchen, and just know that whatever happens either way whether it’s good or bad, you’re always going to learn. Learning from your mistakes always makes you better.”

That’s why it is truly an honor to be featured in Good Morning America for my Diwali Indian Fusion recipe. My Gulab Jamun Donut is not only a super easy and delicious Diwali dessert but the most popular dessert recipe on my website. In fact, the recipe ranks number one on Google.

Sharing this fusion recipe with such a big publication is a testament to how South Asian culture has come to reach the forefront of American culture and I am so proud to be able to have a part in sharing it.
