Tres leches cake, meaning “three milks,” is a traditional Mexican dessert soaked in a mixture of condensed milk, evaporated milk, and heavy cream, creating a moist and velvety texture. In the Churro Tres Leches Cake, this classic base is infused with the irresistible flavors of churros. The cake layers are delicately spiced with cinnamon, and each slice is generously drizzled with a caramel sauce reminiscent of churro dipping sauce. The result? A celebration of sweetness that will transport you to a state of pure bliss.

Churro Tres Leches Cake

  • Total Time: 45
  • Yield: 8 1x

Ingredients

Scale

Churro Cake

  • 2& 1/2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 3 eggs (for eggless 1 cup yogurt)
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 3/4 cup oil
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3 tbsp milk

Whipped Frosting

  • 1 pint heavy whipping cream
  • 1/3 cup powdered sugar

Tres Leches (3 milks)

  • 1 cup evaporated milk
  • 1 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 cup whole milk or coconut milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350F and grease a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  2. Next in a bowl, combine the flour, baking soda & powder, salt and cinnamon. Whisk until everything is well incorporated and set it aside.
  3. Next into a stand mixture or using a handheld mixture, mix the eggs until they’re beaten. Add in the sugar and beat for 1-2 mins until you see a light pale like mixture. Add the sour cream + vanilla extract and mix until everything is well combined.
  4. Slowly add the dry mixture into the wet, until you have a lump free batter. Add the milk and milk one more time. Transfer batter into baking pan and bake for 30mins or until the center is fully baked.
  5. In a bowl combine the “3 milks” and whisk until everything is fully incorporated. Set aside.
  6. In a blender add the heavy whipping cream and powdered sugar, pulse until the heavy whipping cream forms stiff peaks. * see notes
  7. Once the cake is baked, cool for 10 mins and using a fork pierced holes all over the cake. Pour the milk mixture all over the cake and wait until everything is well absorbed. Cool in the fridge for 30 mins- 1 hr.
  8. Add the whipped frosting on top and dust it with a little powdered sugar. Enjoy!

Notes

  • If you don’t have a blender that can make fresh whipped cream you can use cool whip or a stand mixture and whisk everything until you have stiff peaks. I have used my blend tec and ninja bullet in the past to make fresh whipped cream.
  • I purchased small pipettes from amazon and filled them with caramel to place on top of the cake along with churro flavored Kit Kats! This is optional but definitely adds a fun touch to the cake.
  • Turn this cake into cupcakes, simply fill each cupcake liner with batter and bake for 15-20 mins until center is fully cooked (check with toothpick or sharp knife). Poke holes with toothpick or fork and add 1 tbsp or more of the milk mixture.
