Molten lava cake for two please! I miss going out to eat especially because I looked forward to ordering desserts every time. I finally got over my fear and made this cake, in the past I had a horrible experience with it and it was all because I used the wrong chocolate!! Who would have thought using chocolate chips would ruin the whole recipe. Anyways, I hope you’ll enjoy this recipe and make it for the holidays.

I finally got over my fear and made this cake, in the past I had a horrible experience with it and it was all because I used the wrong chocolate!! Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 eggs 1 large egg + 1 large egg yolk
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 4 tbsp butter
  •  cup Russel stover milk chocolate bar
  • 1 tbsp flour + plus more for the custard cups

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 450°F degrees. Grease and flour the custard cups. In a small bowl combine the egg, egg yolk and white sugar. Using a mixer, whip the mixture until it is a light yellow color.
  2. In a small saucepan, melt the chocolate and butter over low heat on the stove top. Stir the tablespoon of flour and the melted butter/chocolate mixture into the whipped eggs and sugar.
  3. Divide the cake batter between the two custard cups. Place the custard cups on a baking sheet and place in the oven. Cook for 8-11 minutes. Make sure you keep a close eye on the cakes, you want to remove them from the oven when the edges are set but the centers are still soft and jiggly.
  4. Let the cakes stand for about a minute before you invert them onto a plate. Dust with powdered sugar or serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Notes

  • Double the recipe for additional servings.
  • Make sure to grease and flour the cake ramekins before placing batter in them, this step is very important because without this the cake will not invert on the plate right.
