Start your day with this delicious and healthy Banana Bread Oatmeal recipe. A quick and easy breakfast, these oats are made with bananas, warm spices, and creamy oats. It is the perfect combination of sweet and hearty flavors for a satisfying morning meal.

I constantly get a stream of questions on my Instagram requesting all sorts of recipes. One of the most frequently asked questions I get is about breakfast recipes. Despite being the most important meal of the day, it happens to be the one that confuses people the most.

Pancakes, waffles, bagels, and toast variations can only go so far. So what exactly are you supposed to make while still keeping it from getting mundane?

Many people want something that feels healthy and light but still keeps them full until lunchtime. Especially if you’re an early riser – whether by choice or by obligation – you need something that will give you energy throughout the morning.

Still, it should be quick to make and easy to carry in case you have to be on the go.

I was also personally on a mission to incorporate more fun breakfast foods into my day because I started getting into the bad habit of starting my day with coffee on an empty stomach. After learning the hard way that it increases your cortisol levels (which makes burning fat a lot harder) and gives you a crash in the afternoon, along with headaches, I knew I had to make the change to eating a real breakfast.

Enter my Banana Bread Oatmeal recipe.

This breakfast is exactly what it takes for me to kick-start my day. It’s cozy and warm because it really reminds me of a dessert banana bread. Even if you really don’t like banana bread, you can swap out the bananas with blueberries or whatever fruit you enjoy and it will taste incredible!

In 2020, my Chocolate Banana Bread went viral – around the time that everyone was baking bread and banana bread and unreasonably hoarding toilet paper. Ah, the good old days.

What’s great about that recipe is that it is soft, rich, and decadent with the classic flavors of a banana bread mixed with some semisweet chocolate.

I wanted to take the base flavors of that popular recipe and turn it into a healthy and delicious breakfast idea that will actually make you excited to wake up in the morning! This simple oatmeal recipe is perfect for anyone from kids to adults. Most importantly, it’s really healthy.

For instance, rolled oats (also known as old-fashioned oats) contain more nutrients than instant oats because they are minimally processed. While both are nutritious, rolled oats are a better source of fiber, protein, and vitamins.

How to Make the Best Banana Bread Oatmeal

The wonderful thing about oatmeal is that it is so easily customizable. You can do practically anything to it to make it your own and fit your needs and preferences.

For instance, although I use regular milk in this breakfast oats recipe, you can easily swap it out with any plant-based milk. Using options like coconut or pistachio milk can really take the flavors in your oatmeal to a new level.

You can also add any toppings you would like. I like to add ingredients that you might find in actual banana bread, but the sky’s the limit. Here are some ideas for Banan Bread Oatmeal toppings:

  • Crushed walnuts
  • Raisins
  • Shredded coconut
  • Mini chocolate chips
  • Chia seeds
  • Hemp seeds
  • Sunflower seeds
  • Maple syrup
  • Honey
  • Brown sugar

You can even turn this recipe into overnight oats or a chia pudding if you prefer that to a classic hot oatmeal. I personally enjoy the traditional version of this recipe, especially on a chillier morning. However, if you’d rather go for a muffin or actual bread recipe, you can try my Chocolate Banana Muffins.
