How to Make this Your Own
One of the main reasons I create recipes for you is so that you can see just how approachable and fun cooking can be. There’s always a hard way and an easy way to do things – and if you’re a beginner in the kitchen, or you’re celebrating something like Diwali and having a ton of people over, you should be able to pick the easy way.
With such a simple recipe like this, there are so many ways to make it your own. You can do multiple variations just to impress your guests or add some excitement to your dessert.
The concept of a traditional trifle is extremely simple, just 3-4 layers:
- Something cakey (the gulab jamun)
- Something creamy
- Something fruity
- Topped with whipped cream and crumbs or nuts for texture
As you will see below, I have omitted fruit from this recipe – mainly because fruit rarely pairs with gulab jamun. However, you are free to experiment with different flavors to see what you come up with!
The easiest way to give this classic Indian dessert recipe a personal twist is by playing with the crumbs and nuts combinations. For instance, you could opt for Parle-G crumbles and edible, organic dried rose petals (inspired by my Gulab Jamun Donut recipe) instead of Biscoff and pistachios. Or maybe even peanut brittle and praline.
As one of the quickest and easiest dessert recipes on my website, these gulab jamun trifles have endless possibilities for you to explore. In the middle of all your Diwali or daily life stressors, don’t forget to have fun with this one! (And be sure to tag and/or DM me with your twist on this if you change it up).
